NMPA Bats Cleanup to the RIAA on LimeWire Case

In the wake of the Recording Industry Association of America’s victory against LimeWire, the National Music Publishers Association has filed suit against LimeWire seeking statutory damages for infringement of the musical works that are unlawfully made available through the file-sharing service. CNET reports that “David Israelite, president and CEO of the NMPA, said this is not a case of piling on but an effort by the publishers to get the money that rightfully belongs to the 2,500 publishing companies and the hundreds of thousands of individual songwriters and composers they represent.” I agree. If the RIAA’s victory weren’t enough, this could be the death knell for LimeWire.
